In an effort to recognize the many contributions made to the early childhood education field countywide, the Board of Directors of the Rockingham County Partnership for Children has established a special Champion for Children award to be given in April 2012.  The Champion for Children award will recognize an individual, nominated by the community, who has made significant contributions of time, talent and/or financial resources to the early childhood community in Rockingham County.

Past recipients include Trish Gwyn, Lisa Fargis, Tina Hensley, Dr. Vickie Brinkley, Bennie Totten and Fran Daniel.

The Rockingham County Partnership for Children (RCPC) is a non-profit organization that administers Smart Start, North Carolina Pre-kindergarten and other private and public funds for the use of enhancing services for children birth through five years of age and their families. Our mission is helping all children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.  RCPC works towards this mission by seeking out agencies, organizations and individuals that work with young children and their families and looking for opportunities to collaborate and enhance or create needed services.

The Champion for Children award seeks to honor an individual who has consistently enabled our mission through their commitment to quality early childhood services.  Completed nomination forms must be postmarked by March 18, 2013 to receive consideration for this year’s award.

RCPC Receives Nurse Family Partnership Planning Grant

The Rockingham County Partnership for Children is pleased to announce it has received a grant to support the planning process for the Nurse Family Partnership Program from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Nurse Family Partnership (NFP), an evidence based maternal child health program, works with first time, at-risk mothers from early in their pregnancy until their child turns two years old.  NFP has successfully helped improve birth outcomes, supported mothers to increase

self-sufficiency and improved literacy and education rates in communities across the country.  In Rockingham County, the program will help meet a critical need currently not being met by existing programs.

“Nurse Family Partnership will dramatically improve the lives of at-risk mothers and their young children in Rockingham County,” says Heather Adams, Executive Director of the Rockingham County Partnership for Children.  “We feel very fortunate to have the support of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust as we work to bring this valuable program to the county.”

The Rockingham County Partnership for Children is a public, private nonprofit organization which administers Smart Start funds serving children prenatal to age five and their families in Rockingham County.  The Partnership has a mission of ensuring every child in the county enters school healthy and ready to succeed.
